Search Engine Optimization – Why is it so important?
These days, just about every web developer claims to perform Search Engine Optimization (or “SEO”). For many this simply means adding in a few keywords and descriptions to the code on each page. However, the practice of proper SEO is part science and part art. It requires, in some measure, technology, marketing, statistical analysis, psychology, business and more. There are a myriad of detail to consider and apply. But the common thread is the intent to deliver better results. And what one considers “results” depends on what your objectives are.
SEO requires attention to everything from the name of your site, your word choice, the names of your files, the “tags” associated with graphics, the layout and organization of your website. Other very important considerations are the consistency of your topics, the frequency of additional content, and the number and types of other websites that link to and talk about your website. Long gone are the days when you could just build a “decent-looking” website and just leave it at that. You can chalk up this change to fierce competition to get noticed, much smarter search engine technology and more web-savvy consumers.
If you don’ t pay close attention to these factors and you just sit on you site, you are wasting one of the greatest opportunities to build your business.
